Three minor updates have been made to the Paragon Format Rules. There is a clarification about negated Lost Souls, a new optional rule for shortening games with many players, and a more detailed explanation of how to handle the process of determining which opponent will block.

As of this week, the Redemption Discord server now has a dedicated channel for Paragon discussion! Check out #unofficial-formats to join in. If you have any questions or comments about these new rules, that channel is the perfect place to let me know.

Clarification: Negated Lost Souls

The Lost Soul rewards are considered special abilities, so a negated soul provides no rewards. This was always the intended ruling, but I just made it more clear in the new version because some players were unsure.

The main reason this rule is important is that rescuing via Son of God will not result in a reward ability. Son of God is already the most important card in the game; it doesn't need an added benefit.

Optional Rule: 4 Redeemed Souls

If all players would like to keep their multiplayer game shorter, there is now an option to make the win condition 4 Redeemed Souls (instead of 5). This rule is completely optional and should only be used if all players agree to it before the game starts.

This option is primarily intended for games with 4 or 5 players. It is not recommended for games with only 2 or 3 players.

Update: Attacking and Blocking

I have expanded the "Attacking and Blocking" section of the rules.

The original version had some ambiguity about what actions were allowed during the process of blocking or passing. Although it never became a problem in the games I played, there was unintended potential for shenanigans, especially with Dominants.

The new version has rules to avoid this. If anyone wants to take an action (such as playing a Dominant or triggering an ability) between the initial attack push and the defense, they must do so before any player decides whether to defend or pass. No cards can be played or other actions taken while players are choosing to defend or pass.

After a player defends (whether that initial defense is blocking with an Evil Character or some other action like playing a Dominant), then the game returns to regular action priority rules (all players can take regular actions again).
